SoftWave Tissue Regenerative Therapy (TRT)

SoftWave TR Therapy for Knee Arthritis and Chronic Tendon and Muscle Pain

If you’re dealing with knee arthritis, chronic muscle or tendon pain, or an injury that hasn’t healed despite rest, physiotherapy, exercise, or injections, SoftWave TRT may be an option worth exploring.

SoftWave Therapy is an advanced, non-invasive technology designed to stimulate the body’s natural repair processes, particularly in tissues that have become chronically inflamed, degenerated, or slow to heal.

At Fairway Chiropractic Centre, SoftWave Therapy is delivered as part of a whole-body healing approach — combining local tissue regeneration with global nervous system and spinal function support.

What Is SoftWave TRT?

SoftWave TRT (Tissue Regeneration Therapy) uses unfocused acoustic shockwaves to deliver a biological signal into damaged tissue.

That signal tells the body:

“This area still needs healing.”

In response, the body may:

  • Improve circulation (angiogeneisis)
  • Reduce chronic inflammation
  • Recruit regenerative stem cells
  • Support tissue remodeling and repair

Unlike ultrasound or traditional shockwave devices, SoftWave Therapy is designed to stimulate biological healing, not simply heat tissue (such as Ultra Sound Therapy) or create micro-trauma (Such as Focused ShockWave Therapy – the common type used).

A Rare & Advanced Therapy in Ontario

At the time of publishing this page, only sixteen clinics in Canada provide SoftWave Therapy.

Fairway Chiropractic Centre is currently the only clinic west of the Greater Toronto Area offering this technology.

This is because SoftWave Therapy is not interchangeable with other modalities.

There is no other machine that does what SoftWave does. No ultrasound, laser, PEMF, or traditional shockwave device produces the same biological signaling effect.

Patients with complex or long-standing conditions often seek out SoftWave Therapy specifically because of this difference.

SoftWave Therapy is used by several professional sports teams in the NFL, NHL, and NBA.

Conditions SoftWave®️ Tissue Regenerative Therapy May Help With

SoftWave Therapy is often used to support the body’s natural healing response in a variety of musculoskeletal and soft-tissue conditions. While results vary, it may help with:

Knee arthritis

SoftWave Therapy is commonly used for knee arthritis when patients want non-surgical, non-injection options. It may help:
  • Reduce pain and stiffness
  • Improve walking tolerance
  • Improve joint function and comfort
SoftWave does not regrow cartilage, but research shows it can improve the joint environment, reduce inflammation, and improve function.

Chronic Tendinopathies

SoftWave Therapy is especially well-suited for chronic tendon pain, including:
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendon pain (jumper’s knee)
  • Tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow
Tendons heal slowly. SoftWave helps restart stalled healing signals when progress has plateaued.

Why We Combine SoftWave Therapy with Chiropractic Care

Healing is not only local.

Your nervous system controls healing, including:

  • Blood flow
  • Inflammation regulation
  • Tissue repair coordination

Chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper spinal motion and nervous system communication. When spinal function improves, your body is better able to coordinate healing — making local therapies like SoftWave TRT more effective.

SoftWave TRT helps the local tissue rejuvenate. Chiropractic helps the body’s global coordination to heal, thereby making SoftWave TRT be more effective.

How Long Does Healing Continue?

One of the most important — and often misunderstood — aspects of SoftWave Therapy is what happens after treatment ends.

The biological repair process initiated by SoftWave Therapy continues for up to 12 weeks (approximately 3 months) after the final treatment session.

This includes:

  • Continued tissue remodeling
  • Ongoing stem cell activity
  • Improved vascular response

Because of this, treatment is not indefinite, and improvement does not stop when sessions stop.

Fees & Discovery Process

The SoftWave Discovery Session

All patients begin with a SoftWave Discovery Session.

This session determines whether SoftWave Therapy is likely to help you.

During the therapy, Injured or inflamed tissue typically produces a distinct discomfort response, while healthy tissue does not.

If this response is absent, SoftWave Therapy is unlikely to be effective.

Discovery Session Fee (Lower Fee)

  • The Discovery Session fee is significantly lower than a full treatment session.
  • If the Discovery Session shows a positive response (as described above) and you choose to proceed with treatment that same visit, the Discovery Session fee is fully waived.
  • You pay only the full treatment session fee.

You only pay the Discovery Session fee if:

  • SoftWave Therapy is not appropriate, or
  • You choose not to proceed with treatment that day

New vs Existing Patients of Fairway Chiropractic Centre.

Existing Patients

  • Discovery only → Discovery fee applies
  • Discovery + treatment same visit → Discovery fee waived

New Patients

New patients require:

  • A neurobiomechanical assessment of the injured area
  • A full spinal and nervous system evaluation

This ensures the area of injury is receiving full neurological input to support healing.

The SoftWave TRT Discovery Session follows immediately after the New Patient assessment, and treatment may begin the same visit if appropriate.

Are You Locked Into a Treatment Plan?

No.

SoftWave Therapy is pay-as-you-go.
You continue only while:

  • Improvement is occurring
  • Benefit is increasing

Treatment stops once maximal benefit has been reached.

There are no prepaid packages and no pressure to continue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SoftWave Therapy painful?

You may feel tapping or pulsing. Discomfort usually occurs over injured tissue and is temporary and closely monitored.

Many conditions respond within 4–6 sessions, though this varies by individual. And some require over 12 sessions for maximal long lasting benefit.
Most patients notice change within 1–2 sessions. Others improve gradually over weeks.

Most patients do not require ongoing maintenance.  This is the case if we are able to remove the factors which have caused the problem in the first place, and strengthen the area with good rehab.

Healing continues for up to 3 months after the final session, and treatment is stopped once maximal benefit is achieved.

Maintenance sessions are optional and based on individual needs.

Are there contraindications?

Yes. SoftWave Therapy is not performed:

  • Over pacemakers or defibrillators
  • Over tumors
  • Over active hemorrhage or blood clots
  • In patients unable to give verbal feedback
  • Over reproductive organs during pregnancy
